Cigarette Butt Litter
Cigarette butts are a significant contributor to litter in our environment today. Many factors contribute to cigarette butt litter, including limited ash receptacles and a lack of awareness among smokers that cigarette butts are litter.
Reducing cigarette butt litter is an important part of reducing the environmental impact of the tobacco industry. As of January 2008, Keep America Beautiful (KAB), through its affiliates and partner organizations, has implemented the program in more than 180 communities across the country. In 2007, the program achieved an average 54 percent reduction in cigarette litter in the communities and venues participating. Click here to learn more and to see how you can help.
