LEGISLATURE PASSES ANOTHER CIGARETTE TAX INCREASE
Like so many years before, the Hawaii legislature is using quick fix tobacco tax hikes to fix the state’s budget problems. Governor Lingle signed into law an increase in the state cigarette excise tax by $0.20 per pack. As a result, effective July 1, 2010 the state cigarette excise tax increases to $3.00 per pack and then goes up to $3.20 per pack on July 1, 2011.
Thanks to those of you who have continued to voice your opposition over the past several years to taxes that unfairly target adult tobacco consumers. We will continue to keep you informed of tobacco related issues that may affect you and hope that you continue to be involved and take action.
