Smoking Restrictions
The Issue:
A growing number of state and local governments are banning smoking not only in public places, like workplaces, restaurants and bars, but also in private places like apartment buildings and cars. People should be able to avoid being around secondhand smoke in places where they must go, such as public buildings, public transportation and many areas in the workplace. However, some smoking ban measures go too far.

Public health officials’ findings warrant certain measures to regulate smoking, and the public should be guided by the conclusions of public health officials in deciding whether to be in places where second hand smoke is present. Smokers also should be guided by these findings in determining when and where to smoke around others.
